About Abingdon Preparatory School
Abingdon Preparatory School, or Abingdon Prep, is a leading independent day school for boys aged 4 to 13. Together with our Senior School, Abingdon, we make up the Abingdon Foundation which educates boys to age 18, with full and weekly boarding available at the Senior School from 13.
Abingdon Prep is based in Frilford just outside Abingdon and is set in 50 acres of beautiful countryside with views to the Ridgeway. Fresh air and space abound with woods to explore, gardens to cultivate, adventure play areas to enjoy and an abundance of sports pitches and playgrounds.
We are a very happy, friendly school with around 250 boys. There is no typical pupil. Confident or shy, robust or sensitive - and they are usually a mixture of all four - we know what makes boys tick. Wherever their interests lie, our extensive Other Half (extra-curricular) programme with over 50 clubs and activities, captures their enthusiasm. It might be coding, the creative arts, fencing or folk group or perhaps the sports field where, whether they are A or D team, they will represent their school.
Opportunities are plentiful at Abingdon Prep and boys are keen to try everything; they want to sing in the choir, play in the orchestra, join the debating team and they want to work hard. Our small class sizes ensure that pupils are very well cared for and their strengths and weaknesses recognised. With one class throughout Pre-Prep and then two per year from age seven, there is plenty of opportunity for musical ensembles, art and science clubs and when it comes to team sports, we have full fixture cards for every term.
Our teaching is adapted to boys’ learning. Our phonics programme is tailored to suit and we know the books they enjoy, the trips that will inspire. We appreciate that every boy is different and that confidence is key.
Boys flourish here, and happy boys make very good learners.
Abingdon Preparatory School - formerly Josca's - merged with Abingdon School in 1998 and is a thriving day school with 250 pupils.
